Puerto Rico - Rio Prieto

$22.00

This Puerto Rican coffee comes from a community lot from small-holding producers in one of La Cordillera’s most famous Microclimates

This coffee is a rarity and we are producing a limited run of 40 bags!

Hailing from one of Puerto Rico’s most well known coffee town, Yauco, this coffee is sure to please and is noted on Forbe's top 10 list for most rare and expensive coffees in the world!

At the turn of the 19th century, Puerto Rico was the 6th largest exporter of coffee in the world, and although it was grown all over La Cordillera, farmers would travel on horseback or mules from all corners, over the mountains and into the bay of Yauco, where the sacks would be stamped with the name of the town before departing for Europe. Yauco remains a prominent coffee-producing town–not just by holding on to its glorious past, but because of its distinct terroir, influenced by leeward winds blowing off the nearby ocean, and heights that produce a significantly elongated growing season which extends far past the rainy season which typically coincides with peak harvest in other regions.

Puerto Rican coffee over the last decade has been harder to come by because of various political and weather climate issues. This is a treat to partner with Forgotten Forest to offer this incredible rare small batch, roasted in house by Filled.
